Children & Youth

Children are welcome at St. James!

On Sunday mornings, children can attend worship with their parents in the sanctuary, or attend Children's Chapel during the 10:30 service. Read more about Children's Chapel below.

For infants and younger children, a nursery is available during our 8:30 and 10:30 services.

Sunday Formation and Classes:

VBS

Children’s Chapel: Age 5 through 4th grade (*10:30 AM service only)

On Sunday mornings, children meet in the Narthex prior to the 10:30 service and process into Church, and then to the Chapel, following the Clergy Cross. In the chapel, they have a structured time of worship and prayer. The children rejoin the main service in time for Communion.

Sunday School

Sunday school takes place between the 8:30 and 10:30 services. Please contact our Director of Children's and Youth Ministries, Natalie Smith, to learn about opportunities for Kindergarten - 6th grade.

Rite 13 (Grades 7 & 8)

A two-year program, Rite 13 is designed to celebrate the individuality of each young person, while exploring stories of God and God’s people. Classes are held on Sundays during the Sunday school hour, at the church. The program culminates with a liturgy that serves as a community expression of the passage from childhood to adulthood. This service is the tangible beginning of the young person’s individual spiritual journey.

Communion Instruction

All children are welcome and encouraged to receive Holy Communion. Understanding the meaning of Communion is important, and Communion Instruction Classes are offered twice a year. The classes are supplemental; taken when you feel your child is ready for a deeper understanding of our basic faith.
