MEMORIAL GARDEN

Download this report
St. James Memorial Garden, is a Non-Profit Corporation formed in December 2000 at the direction of the Vestry of St. James to build and operate a place suitable for the interment or burial of the ashes of deceased St. James Parishioners and their families. The Garden (50’ by 25’) is located adjacent to the sacristy with a Columbarium Wall as its south-east boundary. Access is by way of a concrete walk between the sacristy and the Bounds Chapel.

The Garden is operated by six Board members elected for three year terms by the St. James parishioners at the annual meeting. Current members are:

  • Bruce Fahlberg (Board Chairman)
  • Bill Clarke
  • Ouida May
  • Savan Wilson
  • John Barfield
  • Bonnie Gulsby
  • Patty Havard

The MG Board members welcome a meeting with St. James parishioners to discuss aspects of the Memorial Garden, answer questions, and if desired, assist in the completion of a subscription agreement. Brochures are available in the Church office and our Board Members are available for your call.

There are 72 companion niches in the Columbarium wall. Each niche accommodates the ashes of two persons, each contained in a bronze urn. In 2016 we had three interments in the Columbarium wall, and completed one niche subscription. Of the 72 companion niches, 41 are now reserved.

There are 540 ground plots available in the Garden; each plot is one foot square. The ashes of the deceased are poured directly into a hole dug in the center of the plot. In 2016 three interments were completed in the Garden.

In 2016 we received five subscriptions for ground plots making a total of 69 reserved. Thirty-six of the plots contain the cremains of a subscriber.

When the present Columbarium wall is 75% reserved, the MG Board plans to build another brick Columbarium wall on the north side of the Garden containing 72 companion niches. The present wall is 56% reserved.

INCOME for 2016:  $3416.67       Subscription fees, Gifts, Interest ($866.67)
EXPENSES for 2016: $1399.03     Name Plates, Urns, License fee, and Operating Expenses
BALANCE: 31 Dec 2016 $24,223.39   Includes reserves of $13,073.64 for future purchase of name plates and urns for current subscribers.

The MG operating bank account is with Compass Bank, where three CDs are also held.
CD TOTAL VALUE: 31 Dec 2016 $47,085.26

Respectfully submitted,
Patricia Havard, Sec/Trea.
