Girls & Boys Choir

Mission Statement:

Children's Choir

As choristers of St. James we are committed to the responsibility of sharing God’s love by singing with the spirit. This act of service for the St. James community will develop in us a deeper love for God, his church, and for each other.

Benefits of singing in the choir:

Singing is the most effective formation experience for kids to learn about the love of God, the Eucharistic Liturgy, and the music and history of the Church. Many priests and deacons were choristers before becoming priests.

Singing relieves stress and to sing in harmony with others physically changes your soul.

We learn music theory, piano playing, and vocal technique.

The church desperately needs young leadership and singing in the choir is a great way to develop those leadership skills.

Singing is a form of service and sacrifice. When we sing for church we are serving God and his people. We take on the form of the literal choir of angels pointing others to God.

Singing exposes our vulnerabilities and we develop the courage to face them. Learning to sing helps us become confident public speakers and helps encourages our voices to project boldly.

It’s fun! We play games together, pray together, and have enjoyable rehearsals and services. There are also myriad travel opportunities possible!

How often do we sing in church?

The Girls & Boys Choir sings in worship, on average, once per month for both the 8:30 and 10:30 services. They are the main choir for the 3:00 PM Christmas Eve service.

When do we rehearse?

Rehearsals are held on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 - 5:30 PM, mid-August through May. The children learn music theory, vocal technique, rehearse anthems and hymns, and have some fun each week.

Testimonials -

“We have loved watching Cooper’s music education grow into a love for music. He says his favorite song is “Now the Green Blade Rises.”  He loves singing and was even selected to have a small singing part in his school play. Cooper said one of his favorite choir activities was singing Christmas carols at the assisted living home and spreading Christmas cheer.” - Sarah Holt

“They were perfect! Their hard work—and yours—created something beautiful for all of us; their voices resonant and clear helped us remember that of such as these is the kingdom of God. As I left the 10:30 service, I couldn’t help but think that the Lord was blessed by the “sweet, sweet sound in His ear.”- Karen Myrick

“My daughter has loved being a part of the choir. She has learned so much about the liturgy, music, and leadership. Her confidence, love for the Lord, and her church family has grown exponentially.” - Brittany Perrie
